About Hayward & Cook Ltd.
For over 100 years Hayward & Cook Ltd. have been trading from their scrap merchants yard in the heart of Birmingham, but covering the whole of the West Midlands, making them one of the most well known and sought after scrap metal merchants in the area, providing you with the experienced support you need, whilst offering the very best prices on all types of scrap metal.
Our Roots
William Elijah Hayward and John Henry Cook, cousins, formed a partnership from which the company took it's name.
The earliest records of Hayward & Cook Ltd. are dated 1917 where, in a small notebook various scrap dealings were noted. In April of the same year the partners sold 25 tons of (hand) bundled steel scrap at a little over £5 per ton! This was a crucial stepping stone that funded a timber framed, corrugated iron building to be erected at 264 Windsor Street, Aston in December of that year. Although no longer at Windsor Street Hayward & Cook Ltd. have remained in the Aston area of Birmingham until the present day.
Thirty one years later on May 12th, 1948 a Special General Meeting of the members of the Midland Scrap Iron, Steel & Metals Association was held at the Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham. Twenty nine firms were represented and although a few survive, only Hayward & Cook Ltd. remain independent, under family control.
